Celebrities Who You Didn’t Know Had Kids

I’ve never been a celebrity, and I’m guessing the majority of those of you reading this haven’t either. But even still, we know that it’s difficult to keep a secret in Hollywood. With fans being obsessed over their favorite celeb’s every move, paparazzi following them around all the time, and being asked probing questions during interviews, it’s not an easy job being a celebrity.

Yes, we know they’re famous and rich, but you have to admit they have to forego a lot of things that most of us don’t, most importantly, their privacy.

That’s why it’s refreshing to hear that there are some of them have managed to maintain a little bit of secrecy over some part of their lives – their children and families! I didn’t even know some of the following superstars had kids, did you?

1. Tom Hardy & Charlotte Riley

You may know Tom Hardy from Mad Max, Star Wars or one of his stage performances, but did you know he is also a doting father to two children? His eldest son, Louis, was born in 2008 with then girlfriend Rachel Speed. But his second son who was born in October 2015 to him and his current wife actress Charlotte Riley, still remains a mystery as the public doesn’t even know his name!

Tom may not like sharing details about his family or children to the public, but he has spoken about fatherhood on a couple occasions. He has also repeatedly expressed his wishes to be a “normal person” instead of a superstar. “(I have) no desire to be a star. I’d like to be normal,” he said during an interview with GQ magazine.

2. Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll

Kate Winslet, the famous English actress is one of the most popular celebrities in the world. She is also the proud mother of 3 children. She had her first child with Jim Threapleton in 2000, a daughter named Mia. She then split from Jim and married director Sam Mendes, who farthered her second child in 2003, a son name Joe. After that marriage too ended, she married Ned Rocknroll in 2012. At the age of 37, Kate gave birth to their son Bear a year later.

She has said that despite a structure that people might consider “unconventional”, they are very happy and very much a family. Still she has managed to keep them away from the public’s eye, and she says the key is to stay away from social media – completely!

When asked why she insists on keeping everything quiet, she has said: “The reality is I absolutely love my little life…I trundle along; we have friends over; I make dinner. Sure, I could have lots of people who do the cooking, the driving, all that jazz — but I would be unhappy. I wouldn’t want my children raised that way.”

3.Donald Glover

Donald Glover, the incredibly talented singer, comedian, actor, etc., etc. has been the face of some of the most famous characters in Hollywood history. But still, he isn’t someone that people would think of “super famous”.

Well, that’s because he has taken incredible care in keeping it that way! The public only found out that he had a girlfriend, let alone a child, when he thanked them during his acceptance speech when awarded best actor for a television series at the 2017 Golden Globes. He said, “I really want to say thank you to my son, and the mother of my son, for making me believe in people again, and things being possible. So thank you.”

At that point, both of their names were unknown, and it wasn’t until the 2017 Governor’s ball that we came to know the little one’s name was Legend. Glover and his partner also welcomed a baby girl into their family this year.

4.Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego

Zoe Saldana seems to have managed to achieve the perfect balance of privacy and fame. But one of her most impressive feats is keeping the fact fact that she was pregnant (for the 3rd time) a secret all along – she even hid her bump like a boss! Only when she announced her son, Zen, was born on instagaram did the rest of the world catch up!

Although she probably will never expose them to the public eye, she does enjoy posting artistic shots of them that don’t reveal their faces.

5. Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer

You know them as Sookie and Bill on True Blood, they know themselves as hubby and wifey. That’s right, actors Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are married and are the loving parents of twins!

They developed a romance while working together on the HBO series but kept it a secret from everyone, until February of 2009. A couple years later, Paquin became pregnant with twins – another thing they weren’t too keen to share with the media. Although Moyer did confirm the pregnancy to US Weekly, saying “having two more is just going to be even more crazy, but that’s cool!”

The twins were born in 2011 but the couple wasn’t interested in introducing them to the public. When a tabloid magazine published photos of her kids, Paquin was furious and took to twitter to condemn it. She is a big advocate of personal and children’s privacy.

6. Heather Morris and Taylor Hubbell

Heather Morris is best known for her character in Fox’s Glee, but you probably aren’t likely to see her or her family anywhere in print. That’s because she likes to keep her private life away from the public’s eye. Morris is married to Taylor Hubbell, a college basketball player that had gone to the same high school as her (although they didn’t know each other the time).

The couple got married in a private ceremony that only had friends and family in 2015. They currently have two sons, Elijah Beckwith, born in 2012, and Owen Barlett born in 2016, both of whom she has managed to keep away from the tabloids (but she does post a picture of them in instagram once in a while).

7. Scarlett Johansson and Romain Dauriac

Scarlett Johansson is another one of Hollywood’s biggest superstars, and has played some iconic roles, but none as important as her role as a mother. She gave birth to a daughter with her then husband Romain Dauric in 2014; they named her Rose Dorothy. In an interview with Barbara Walters, she said that she loves being a mother, stating “It’s wonderful and exhausting. You know, the love is just unbelievable, it’s very overwhelming. I do the whole bit. I’m nursing, and I love it.”

Johansson also likes to keep things private whenever possible, and she claims to despise social media. She said in the same interview, “You know, I live a pretty low-key lifestyle. I always hold my cards sort of close to my chest when it came to my private life.” Although the paparazzi have captured a picture or two of her out and about with her daughter, she’s managed to keep them away for the most part.

8. Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell

Evan Rachel Wood is another actress that has kept her child, whom she had with then husband actor Jamie Bell, away from the cameras. And that’s not all, she has never even revealed her son’s name.

The reason why she is so secretive about her little one might have something to with having been a child star herself. She told Rolling Stone, “Any child actor will tell you that you don’t have a lot of the tools or the experience to combat a lot of the criticism or very adult situations being thrown at you.”

She has also said, “People obviously knew I was pregnant — can’t hide that,“ adding, “I haven’t released his name. I’ve done my best to keep his picture from being taken, just because kids don’t really have a choice in the matter. It’s such a shame when kids get harassed just because of who their parents are before they’re old enough to decide who they are or who they want to be.”

9. Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman

Anne Hathaway joins the list of A-listers who have kids they want to keep private. She gave birth to her son. Jonathan, in March 2016. She and her husband actor/producer Adam Shulman like to lead a low-key lifestyle and keep away from public’s eye, which is why they did not announce the birth of her son or release any pictures.

However, in March 2017, she posted a photo on instagram of the little one watching her speech on a laptop about paid parental leave at the UN for International Women’s Day.

She later said she regretted the decision to do so, stating, “I had never posted a photo of my son, and I decided to post a shot of the back of his head, and almost as soon as I’d done it, I wished that I hadn’t. I felt like I had broken some kind of a seal inviting people into my life. And even though I felt as though I had done it in as protective a way as I could, even though it was a moment I was incredibly proud of, I don’t know that I’ll ever do it again.”

10. Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger

Imagine if Marilyn Monroe and the joker from batman were a couple. That sounds like the start to a really bad joke, but two actors who played these characters on screen, Michelle Williams and Heath Ledger, used to be a couple in real life, and are the parents to 12 year-old Matilda who was born in 2005.

They later split in 2007, before Ledger’s tragic passing in 2008. Throughout everything Williams has tried to keep her private life a secret and her daughter sheltered from the cameras. She has spoken about her struggles to keep it that way, telling The New York Post she moved from Brooklyn to the countryside because “it was an intolerable state of existence.”

Things have since gotten a little better, she says, calling actress Kristen Bell her “personal hero”, and thanking her for “lobbying websites and magazines to no longer publish photos of children.”
