Five Health Risks of Salt

Salt does give a kick to your meal, but too much of it will be bad for you. Here are health risks of consuming too much salt

1. Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is indicated by the reduced density of bones. It means that bones fracture and break more easily. Although osteoporosis doesn’t directly cause death, it may drastically reduce quality of life. When you consume too much salt, the level of calcium in your bones will be reduced. This increases the risk of osteoporosis.

2. Obesity

Salt is a zero-calorie chemical, containing only sodium and chloride. The relation between salt and weight gain is associated with poor hydration habit. High level of salt intake will make you thirsty. If you tend to drink soda or any sweet beverage, you will increase average daily calories intake. If it’s going on for years, it will be far easier for you to become obese.

3. Hypertension

Hypertension is the trigger for various health diseases, including heart failure and stroke. People with higher consumption of salt are known to have higher blood pressure.

4. Stomach cancer

Cancer is a scary health condition and for many people, it’s a death sentence. Stomach cancer is particularly deadly with high mortality rate. This condition is often associated with bad diet, including high salt consumption. Junk food is often high in sodium and it may also contain other substances that are bad for your health.

5. Asthma

Asthma is not a pleasant condition and in some cases, it can be fatal. People with higher predisposition towards asthma could have reduced quality of life due to the consumption of salt. Asthma attacks can happen at any time and death may occur if the condition isn’t treated properly. Because asthma can attack so suddenly, you need to reduce the risks by avoid consuming too much salt.
