Jamie Farr would start his military career on-screen. He starred as a second lieutenant in the Army on the hit show M*A*S*H. That would then become a reality, as he was drafted into the Army. He attended basic training at California’s Fort Ord. The actor served six months in the Korean War.

He was stationed in Japan after Red Skelton requested that he perform USO Tours, debuting his famous comedy skills. Farr acquiesced, and he spent six months entertaining his fellow troops. Luckily, he would not experience the same fate as his M*A*S*H character (a Section 8 Discharge).
