Actor Peter Boyle attended Officer Candidate School, and he graduated in 1959. He was commissioned in the US Navy as an ensign shortly after, but his military career was cut short by a nervous breakdown that forced him out of service. Boyle then turned to acting, appearing in movies such as Young Frankenstein, Taxi Driver, The Dream Team, and While You Were Sleeping.

Boyle’s most famous role in recent times was that of Frank Barone, Ray’s father in Everybody Loves Raymond. Boyle died of bone marrow cancer in 2006, and he is buried at Green River Cemetery in Springs, New York.
