Cesar Romero was born in 1907 in New York City. He enlisted in the Coast Guard in 1942, where he was stationed as part of the regular crew of the USS Cavalier. Despite being from a wealthy family, Romero never mentioned his family’s riches and asked for no special treatment.

Romero served from 1942 until 1945, working his way up to Chief Petty Officer during WWII. As an actor, Romero actually had a buzz about him before enlisting, as he had been in The Thin Man in 1933. Romero’s most famous role was the Joker on the sixties show, Batman.
