These Weight Loss Truths Are Shocking and Troubling

We’ve all at some point in our lives tried to lose weight, but more often than not, the choices we make aren’t exactly right. Often, we do not bother to gather enough (proven) information or consult trusted sources. This is driven by the fact that we always want to see results quickly; but successful weight loss takes time, patience, and willpower.

It doesn’t help that we are basically being lied to and misinformed by literally everyone from food labels, to your neighbor, your local restaurant, and even the government! Take for example, the fact that the government recommended calorie intake for an adult is 2000 calories per day. This is a serious miscalculation of the amount of calories needed by a person because it doesn’t take into account age, height, stature, and so many more things.

This and other facts about how food companies basically just estimate the amount of calories to print on the labels is explained in the below video. It’s a clip from the show “Adam Ruins Everything”, where they focus on breaking common misconceptions and educating the public. The show relays facts in a fun and whimsical way, which makes it fun to watch and informative.

Another clip from the show talks about how extreme diets do not work. And even if they do work, the results are temporary and end up causing more harm than good in the long run. Finding out that most of the contestants on “The Biggest Loser”, one of the most popular weight loss reality shows, ends up gaining back the weight is particularly shocking. The awesome thing about the show is that they bring on real doctors, scientists, and experts to testify to the facts stated and state their sources, so the viewers can check for themselves.

So, having watched these videos, we hope you’re a little clearer about how to approach weight loss. Or at least, you’ll know what NOT to do.
Share with your friends so they stop making the same mistakes as well!
